Lee David Medinets, Esq., CES®

Lee David Medinets, Esq., CES is Chief Counsel for Madison Commercial Real Estate Services and all of its affiliated companies including Madison 1031.  Mr. Medinets spends most of his professional time researching, structuring, explaining, writing about and lecturing on matters relating to title insurance, §1031 tax deferred exchanges, real estate transactions and business law.

Mr. Medinets started his law career in 1977, opening his own practice in Wall Township in Lakewood, focused on real estate law, real estate litigation, business law, commercial litigation and family law.  A sole practitioner for twenty years, he helped to establish and served as outside counsel to Madison 1031 and its affiliated companies, joining Madison officially in 2004.

Mr. Medinets earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia in 1974 and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Santa Clara School of Law in 1977.  During law school, he served as Editor-in-Chief of The Advocate, the newspaper of the University of Santa Clara School of Law. He received the University of Santa Clara Community Service Award in 1976 and 1977.  Mr. Medinets also worked as a summer law clerk for Morgan, Melhuish, Monaghan and Spielvogel in Livingston, NJ.  Mr. Medinets was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1977 and to the New York and California Bars in 1981.

A noted lecturer and author on the subject of §1031 exchanges, Mr. Medinets is also a Certified Exchange Specialist and active member of several Federation of Exchange Accommodators (FEA) committees, including the CES Council and Tax Advisory Board. A long-time resident of Lakewood, Mr. Medinets has served the community in numerous capacities, including member of the Lakewood Township Master Plan Committee, mediator for the Ocean County Family Court’s Early Settlement Program and member of the Lakewood Township Planning Board.
